"Smokey offers a great combination of patient & methodical teaching, passion for all-things-bicycle, a wealth of knowledge and experience, and a beautiful island community to take part in. The bike shop and student housing connect to amazing forested trails perfect for walking, jogging, or biking, and lead to the Quadra community centre with weekly community lunch, yoga classes, and island market. There’s so much cycling & hiking on this island, I love that we get free time to explore. Most of all, I'm excited to be feeling more and more confident to handle any bike mechanics challenge that rolls my way..." - Kimi H, a graduate
I've been meaning to email you for a while now, to let you know
that I've been working at a bike shop as a mechanic since January 3! I'm loving it. I'm still learning lots,
but am much more confident after 3 months of real mechanics work than I was when
I started. My boss is especially impressed with my wheel building and truing
skills! Whenever we get a custom wheel to build it comes straight to me. I've
built quite a few of those wheels for fat bikes, with 100mm rims and 4"
tires. - Naomi, a graduate
Smokey's course offers ample time to build a wealth of
experience. Smokey's teaching ability is tailored based on one’s desire to
learn. He is willing to teach aspiring bicycle mechanics with hands on experience
with used and new bikes. From a tricky cantilever brakes to building a
new bike, or who knows maybe overhauling a 3 speed hub. Smokey's got it all. - Justin, a graduate
The Quadra Bike School offers professional level training for bicycle mechanics. The instructor, J. Smokey Dymny, is an experienced bicycle mechanic instructor who taught the Bicycle Assembly and Maintenance courses in Toronto in 2009 and 2010 and on Quadra since 2011.
