Why is this course 5 weeks long?

Our course is built on a foundation of history, theory, and application. Our course puts each student in a real-world scenario where they get to work hands-on with customer bicycles where they are challenged to inspect, diagnose, and repair real bicycles.

Along with an industry recognized Professional Bicycle Technician Certificate, at QBS you will also spend a substantial amount of time learning the basics of wheel building. This includes both assembly and tuning.

Can my spouse, partner, or child stay with me?

Students with pets, spouses, or children must make other housing arrangements for them. There are several inns, lodges, and many B&B’s for those who need alternative accommodation. Contact Smokey for further clarification.

Where can I do my laundry?

A washing machine and dryer are available in residence. On site laundry is very useful after dirty wrenching in the shop or messy riding on the trails. On sunny days we recommend drying clothes using fresh air and solar power.

Are meals provided?

There are too many different diets among students for anyone to cope with the wide variety of eating habits. Students do your own cooking.  This is the only bike school which offers this money-saving feature. If you have similar diets you can even cook together!  Food shopping is just 4 or 5 kilometres away, depending on whether you go north or south.

Do I need a car on Quadra Island?

Students who don't bring a car can easily reach the two villages by bicycle, or use one of the school's bicycles for transportation.

What is the QBS drug and alcohol policy?

This is a school environment. Drugs and alcohol will not be used on the property. If you are a smoker please refrain from smoking on the QBS premises.

Where can I check the Campbell River-Quadra Island ferry schedule?

Plan ahead and check the ferry schedule here. If you plan on going back and forth between islands we would encourage you to purchase a B.C Ferries Experience Card.

Can I get picked up from the ferry?

You can! We’ll happily arrange a pick-up time with you. Just call ahead at 250.285.2447 and speak with one of our staff.

Driving To Quadra

• From the B.C. mainland, take a ferry to Departure Bay, Nanaimo

• From Nanaimo take Highway 19 North to Campbell River

• Turn right onto Island Hwy (the old Hwy 19.)

Finding QBS on Quadra

• From the Quathiaski Cove Ferry Dock: Cove Road goes up the hill to a T-junction in front of the Quathiaski Cove shopping centre

• Take a left on Harper Road, proceed straight until the next T-junction

• You’ll turn right here at the only gas station and propane station on the island - open until 8pm
  Note* You can only buy diesel on Vancouver Island

• You are now on Heriot Bay Road

• Continue straight until you come to a t-junction and turn left (still Heriot Bay Road)

• Drive/ride approximately 2km and look for our frog mascot on the QBS sign on the left side of the street
